When Young Africans Walk Into a Millennium-Old Mulberry Grove, What Ancient Farming Wisdom Will They Discover?

Recently, more than ten African international students studying in China visited the ancient mulberry tree cluster along the old course of the Yellow River in Xiajin, starting an immersive cultural tour of mulberry agriculture.

Stretching over 6,000 mu (400 hectares), the woodland is covered with gnarled, interwoven ancient branches forming an ageless picturesque view. Wandering among these millennium-old mulberry trees, the students got an up-close taste of the profound heritage of this historic grove.

What impressed them most was a one-of-a-kind local harvest custom: holding up large cloth sheets beneath trees and shaking the branches. As several African international students pull the cloth taut together, plump mulberries shower down onto the fabric.

From wandering among age-old mulberry trees to hand-picking fruit, this hands-on farming activity carries a unique appeal. Stay with our camera and take part in this cross-cultural encounter amid the ancient mulberry groves.
