If you have never stepped into the Zhu Guoxiang Memorial Hall, it would be hard to grasp how a Qing-dynasty county magistrate’s decision shaped this land’s fate over three centuries.
Recently, more than ten African international students in China visited Xiajin and discovered a 300-year-old sand-control solution at the Zhu Guoxiang Memorial Hall. Accompanied by a guide, they toured the Hall of Diligence and Integrity Culture. Through illustrated panels and ancient farming implements, they learned about Zhu Guoxiang’s lifelong commitment to planting mulberries to curb sand erosion, governing diligently and enriching local residents. What was once a land plagued by violent sandstorms has bloomed into vast mulberry forests. Standing amid these cultural relics, the students deeply sensed how forward-thinking the ecological wisdom of ancient Chinese people was.
Today, let us follow these international students and unfold this cross-era journey of mulberry culture linking yesterday and today.
