Five-colored silk strands wrap around fingertips. What we twist is a vibrant cord; what we fasten is heartfelt blessing.

Recently, more than ten African international students studying in China visited Xiajin. They sat side by side with local children to twist red, yellow, blue, white and black threads into unified five-color bracelets. With every gentle twist and knot, the age-old wish for warding off misfortune and embracing good fortune is passed down silently.

They fastened their handmade five-color cords on one another’s wrists. The silky strands wrap tight, holding sincere cross-cultural friendship together. At this moment, intangible cultural heritage is no longer an abstract concept from books. Instead, it turns into tangible Eastern warmth resting gently on their wrists, within easy reach.

Stay tuned to our camera and experience this beautiful cultural encounter connected by colorful silk threads.
