Reed leaves are folded into cones and glutinous rice is pressed firm, as a traditional zongzi takes shape at the fingertips. Recently, more than ten African international students in China visited Ping’anhu Village, Xiajin, to learn zongzi-making with local children. Besides classic red-date glutinous rice zongzi, the activity featured a unique local specialty— Xiajin mulberry zongzi. Plump purplish-red mulberries are wrapped in glutinous rice. Once fully steamed, fresh leaf fragrance blends perfectly with sweet fruity notes, delivering an authentic taste of Xiajin’s ancient mulberry groves.

Folding leaves, filling rice, and tying bundles— every step passes down traditional craftsmanship and offers immersive experience of Dragon Boat customs. Follow the camera and savor the delicate oriental charm wrapped in one zongzi.
