On March 27, Qingyun County invited international students from Dezhou University to participate in the“China of Opportunity ·Charming Dezhou” Perceptual Experience Activities in Qingyun. Ten students from countries including Laos engaged in activities such as peach wood talisman carving and cloisonné craftsmanship, visited Shandong Shuifa Modern Agricultural Industrial Park, and exchanged insights on local traditional culture and cultural differences.
Entering Zhang Tao Fu (Peach Wood Charms) Workshop in Qingyun Town, Qingyun County, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage craft, wearing reading glasses and holding a carving knife, skillfully etched a peony design into a piece of peach wood. Within moments, the floral pattern emerged vividly. International students gathered around, eagerly trying their hands at crafting the peach wood charms under guidance.“The artisan’s skill is remarkable—carving a painting into wood while weaving in local cultural elements. It’s truly astonishing!” said Pan Xiao’an, an international student from Laos.
Upon arriving at Shuifa Modern Agricultural Industrial Park in Shangtang Town, Qingyun County, the visitors were greeted by the sweet-and-tangy aroma of tomatoes. Rows of uniformly sized, glossy tomatoes stretched into the distance. Unlike traditional greenhouses, these tomatoes are grown vertically in nutrient bags using hydroponic cultivation, climbing support ropes to heights of up to two stories. This method eliminates seasonal and geographical constraints, ensures pollution-free production, and delivers stable, high-quality yields.
In a conference room at the park, a cloisonné instructor prepared materials for the students. Under guidance, they carefully bent gold wires into patterns with tweezers and adhered them to a baseboard. With precise control over the curvature and seamless switching between tools, they outlined the design. Next, they selected colored enamels and applied them with spatulas to create three-dimensional effects.“Cloisonné is a stunning art form. Though complex, I thoroughly enjoyed the process and plan to refine my piece back at school," said Pan Xiao’an.
The students expressed that Qingyun is a city with a long history and rich culture, boasting numerous cultural treasures worth exploring. They pledged to promote Qingyun to friends in their home countries in the future. The event allowed foreign friends to experience the charm of traditional Chinese culture, advancing the global reach of Chinese culture and fostering cultural exchanges between China and other nations.
