I＇m Yang Fengyan， an inheritor of Jinan hairy monkey handicraft， which is an intangible cultural heritage of Shandong Province． I have been making these hairy monkey handicrafts for about 40 years． The hairy monkey handicraft dates back to the reign of Emperor Daoguang of the Qing Dynasty． It was in a traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy where a young apprentice， while fiddling with two kinds of traditional Chinese medicines， accidentally created the first hairy monkey handicraft． Since then， it has been passed down to the present day．

我是杨凤岩，是省级非物质文化遗产济南毛猴的传承人。我做毛猴得40年了吧。这个毛猴的这个由来呢，最早是在清道光年间。在一个中药铺里，一个小伙计在摆弄两味中药的时候，诞生了这个毛猴。从此一直流传到现在。

Hu Jieqing， a famous painter and the wife of the famous writer Lao She， composed a poem for the hairy monkey handicraft： Half－inch monkeys presented to the capital， vividly depicting custom with exquisite detail． Simple sketches show new ideas， creation with two kinds of decoction pieces outshine pearls．

老舍夫人胡絜青，她就曾经为这个毛猴作了首诗：半寸猢狲献京都，惟妙惟肖绘习俗。白描细微创新意，二味饮片胜玑珠。

The＂two kinds of decoction pieces＂ in the poem are actually the two kinds of traditional Chinese medicine， Periostracum Cicadae and Flos Magnoliae． With such a creative idea， the handicrafts are more favored than pearls from the ocean．

二味饮片说的什么？说的蝉蜕和辛夷这两味中药。它做出来以后，比海底的珍珠还要漂亮。

This is money－grubbing monkey， which is quite popular among people due to its interesting symbolism．

这叫“钻钱眼子”，它以这个猴的形式很受老百姓的喜欢。

Look at these three monkeys： one covers its eyes， one covers its mouth， and one covers its ears． This handicraft means do not look at what shouldn＇t be seen， do not listen to what shouldn＇t be heard， and do not say what shouldn＇t be said．

你看看这一个，有捂着眼的、捂着嘴的，还有捂着耳朵的，这是“三不猴”：不该看的不看、不该听的不听、不该说的不说，“三不猴”。

This one imitates the image of Lao Can， the elderly and disabled protagonist from the novel The Travels of Lao Can．

它这个是《老残游记》里的“老残”的形象。

A hairy monkey handicraft is small and seems easy to make， but it is quite difficult to perfect it and give it a special story．

别看是一个小小的毛猴，你把它做起来很简单，要真把它做好了、做出故事就很难了。

As an inheritor， I have a strong sense of responsibility to preserve and perpetuate this cherished cultural legacy． I wish to showcase the rich culture of Jinan with these small hairy monkey handicrafts．

作为传承人，我很有责任把咱们这个文化把它传承下去。通过一个小毛猴，把咱济南的文化都宣传出来。
