“我叫衣春晓，今年27岁。从记事的时候起家里就做地毯，我也是从小耳濡目染。”

“ We had a loom for weaving carpets at home when I was a child． Out of curiosity， I sat on the loom and learned how to weave carpets myself．”

“小时候家里有织毯子的机梁，因为那时候小时候好奇，所以自己也去坐板上学着织地毯。”

“ The craft of handmade carpets is passed down from generation to generation， hand to hand and verbally．”

“手工地毯的工艺都是手手相传、口口相授的。”

It is an ancient traditional handicraft in China． Its production techniques can be traced back over 2000 years．

手工地毯是中国一种古老的传统手工艺。它的制作工艺可以追溯到2000多年前。

From the design to the finished product， there are more than ten processes involved． Each process has strict requirements．

手工地毯从图纸到成品，中间需要十余道工序。每道工序都有很严格的要求。

“ Weaving the carpet is the most labor－intensive process， because it lays the foundation， and requires the highest skill． They say a tall building starts from the ground． This is the carpet backing．”

“织毯是最费功夫的一道工序，因为这是基础，要求也最高。都说万丈高楼平地起。这个就是毯基。”

“ The carpet I＇m currently making， is a 100－line handmade carpet． What does a 100－line handmade carpet mean？ It means that within one foot， there are 100 warp threads， and 100 weft threads． In one square foot， we need to tie ten thousand knots． A skilled worker， can weave one square foot of carpet in a day．”

“现在做的这个地毯，是100道的手工地毯。100道手工地毯是什么样的概念呢？就是在一英尺内有100颗的经线、100颗的纬线。一平方英尺内需要拴一万颗头。一个工人，快手，一天，也就是织一平方英尺的地毯。”

“ The Hundred Blessings Pattern（百福图） carpet here is a 160－line density carpet．It took over five months to complete．It features over 100 different＂福＂ （meaning blessings or good fortune） characters， woven using seven different colors．”

“这幅百福图是一块160道密度的地毯，历经五个多月的时间完成。它由100多种不同的福字，用七种颜色编制而成。”

“ The character represents auspiciousness and good luck in all matters． Chinese people also love the character． Hanging a Hundred Blessings carpet in their homes， We pray for peace， and happiness year after year．”

“福字呢是诸事皆宜的总称。咱们中国的老百姓也喜欢福字。家里挂一幅百幅图，祈求平安，岁岁幸福。”

Craftsmanship is wisdom for survival． Every stitch and thread represents the results of labor． Each handmade carpet has its own cultural heritage， telling stories and conveying history to people．

手艺是一种生存的智慧。其中的一针一线都是劳动成果的表现。每一个手工地毯都有自己的文化底蕴，都向人们诉说着历史。

“ Chinese culture needs to be passed down， and preserved generation after generation． And it also needs to keep up with the times． Our father started learning handmade carpets at the age of 15． Because of his passion， he has been doing it for 38 years． We often say， every handmade carpet tells a story， and every person who uses a handmade carpet， continues and extends the story．”

“中华文化需要薪火相传、代代守护。也需要与时俱进。我们父亲从15岁就开始学习手工地毯。因为喜欢，一做就做了38年。我们常说，每一条手工地毯都在讲述一个故事，而每一个使用手工地毯的人，都在将故事不断重述和延续下去。”
