夏至有三候

The Summer Solstice period is divided into three pentads

一候鹿角解

The first is when the antlers of deer will begin to fall

鹿属阳兽

The deer prefer Yang Qi (positive life energy)

感阴气而鹿角退落

Their antlers will begin to fall when they are affected by Yin Qi (negative life energy)

二候蝉始鸣

The second brings the frequent singing of cicadas

蝉 感阴而鸣

Cicadas will sing when they feel Yin Qi

三候半夏生

During the third, Banxia (Pinellia ternata) thrives

半夏 药名 居夏之半而生

Banxia, a Chinese medicinal herb, thrives in the middle of summer

夏至要注意防暑降温
