Not only does it have Mount Tai, which symbolizes the natural and cultural heritage, it is also the birthplace of Chinese civilization, because it is here that the splendid DaWenkou culture arose.

在6200多年前的新石器时代,中国黄河下游诞生了一支重要的史前文化——大汶口文化。

More than 6200 years ago, during the Neolithic Age, the important prehistoric DaWenkou culture emerged in the lower reaches of the Yellow River basin.

这个时期，原始耕锄已经普遍化,今天人们所使用的铲、斧、刀、匕首、矛等工具,便是大汶口文化时期的发明,不过是由原来的石器变成了铁器。

During this time, the primitive hoe became very popular. Many tools people still use today, such as shovels, axes, knives, daggers, spears, and so on, were invented during the time the DaWenkou culture existed, they were transformed, however, from the original stone tools to the modern-day iron tools we know today.

Travelling to the DaWenkou site

1959年，考古学家在泰安市岱岳区大汶口镇和宁阳县磁窑镇首次发现大汶口文化，并进行了挖掘考定为新石器时代晚期遗存。

In 1959, archaeologists discovered signs of the DaWenkou culture for the first time in DaWenkou town, Daiyue District, Tai'an City, and Ciyao town, Ningyang County, and since then they have excavated numerous remnants from the late Neolithic Age.

随后，在1974、1977、1978年，又先后进行多次发掘。

Subsequent excavations were carried out in 1974, 1977 and 1978.

遗址内发现了墓葬、房址、窖坑等。

Tombs, dwellings, burial sites and so on have been found at the site.

出土的墓葬、陶器及石斧、磨制骨器等生产工具,为研究黄淮流域及山东、江浙沿海地区原始文化提供了重要线索,

The excavated tombs, pottery, stone axes, tools carved from bones and other production tools provide important clues for the study of the original culture in the Huang-Huai River basin and the coastal areas of Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

它颠覆了后人对新石器时代社会生活的认知，将中华文明起源向前推进了两三千年。

The finds have overturned our understanding of the social life of the last few generations of people living during the Neolithic Age, and it has moved back the origin of civilizations by two or three thousand years.

陶器是大汶口文化最具代表性的手工制品，大汶口文化遗址出土了1000多件精美的陶器，这些陶器的制作无论是原料的选择还是火候的掌握，无论器形的塑造还是图案的装饰，已经达到相当高的水平。

Pottery is the most representative handicraft of the Dawenkou culture. More than a thousand pieces of pottery have been unearthed at the Dawenkou site.

The skills needed to produce these pottery items had reached a very high level, as is evident in the choice of raw materials, the mastery of heat, the process by which the pottery was given its shape, and the patterns used as decoration.

Travelling to Mingshi Bridge

大汶河，日夜不息，流淌了数千年。

Day and night, The Dawen River has been flowing for thousands of years.

人类的祖先依河而居、在这里繁衍生息，我脚下的这座明石桥，也是山东境内现存最长的一座古石桥。

Our human ancestors lived here and thrived, and the Mingshi Bridge under my feet is the longest surviving stone bridge in Shandong province.

大汶口遗址的活标本，就是这石桥和这流淌着的汶河水了。

The stone bridge and the flowing water of the Wen River are living remains of the DaWenkou culture.

大汶口文化的发现,被认为是中国建国以来文物考古战线上的重要收获之一，

The discovery of the DaWenkou culture is considered to be one of the most significant archaeological achievements since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

对于进一步全面认识黄河下游原始社会晚期物质文化的面貌,进一步全面认识中国原始社会晚期私有制的产生和发展,原始社会的解体,国家的起源等等,有着重要意义，直到今天依然散发着耀眼夺目的文明之光。

It is of great significance in furthering a comprehensive understanding of the material culture of the late primitive society of the lower reaches of the Yellow River, the emergence and development of private ownership, the disintegration of primitive society, and the emergence of the Chinese state during the late primitive period. To this day, it emanates the dazzling light of civilization.

作为黄河流域文化的重要组成部分，大汶口文化被很好地保护下来，希望有更多的人热爱这些古老文明！

As an important part of the history of the Yellow River, the DaWenkou culture has been well preserved and we hope more people will come to admire the relics left behind by this ancient civilization!
