"遥知兄弟登高处,遍插茱萸少一人。"("I know my brothers would, with dogwood spray in hand, Climb up mountain and miss me so far away.") This is a famous verse by the poet Wang Wei, expressing longing for family and friends who are not present. Today is the traditional Chinese festival, the Double Ninth Festival, also known as the"Climbing Heights Festival" or"Autumn Outing Festival."
Year after year, the Double Ninth Festival arrives again. Its origins can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period of ancient China. On this day, people insert dogwood (茱萸), drink chrysanthemum wine, and climb to high places. These activities symbolize hopes for the safety of distant family members and the desire for their own children and lives to"rise step by step." By ascending to great heights and taking in the autumn breeze, people immerse themselves in the embrace of nature.
In 1988, China officially designated the 9th day of the 9th lunar month as"Chinese Seniors' Day," adding a significance of honoring the elderly to the Double Ninth Festival. This calls for the entire society to respect and care for the elderly, emphasizingthe tradition offilial piety. As children, we should understand that love should not be delayed, and filial piety should not be postponed.
Year after year, the Double Ninth Festival brings peace. It is hoped that our elderly friends can embrace new experiences and a beautiful life with a youthful mindset. With a youthful spirit, age is just a simple number.
As the Double Ninth Festival has arrived, while we climb to high places and enjoy the autumn scenery, let us also promote the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation and make the most of the boundless beauty of autumn.
