在平阴县城东南5公里处，有一座群山环抱的山峪，此山面向西南，极像坐东朝西的一个“函”字，因此得名“函山”。顺治《平阴县志》记载，“函山，旧名贤子峪，中有古刹，四围山色如黛，曲涧潺溪，古木蓊蔚”，距今已经有500多年的历史。贤子峪是平阴保存最完整的明代古村落，村中有三泉庵、函山书院、观音堂、桃花流水、抱珠泉等人文自然景观，青山隐隐，古村幽幽，与世隔绝的静美，古老原始的气息，令人驻足神往。
5 kilometers southeast to Pingyin downtown, there’s a valley surrounded by mountains. It faces southwest and resembles the Chinese character“函”, hence its name“Mountain Han”. According to Pingyin Annals written during Shunzhi reign,“Mountain Han, formerly named as Xianzi Valley, with an ancient temple inside, surrounded by mountains like dark ink, winding streams, and ancient trees”, dates back to more than 500 years ago. Xianzi Valley is the best-preserved ancient village in Pingyin originating from Ming Dynasty, which contains Three Springs Nunnery, Mountain Han Academy, Guanyin Hall, Peach Blossom Stream, and Holding Pearl Spring and some other cultural and natural landscapes. The green mountains and ancient villages, secluded and beautiful, presenting a primitive atmosphere, make people stop to admire.
2明正德初年，也就是1506年，有一位叫安德长的道士访山问水间来到了这里，立刻被这块风水宝地吸引住了，于是他决心住下来，开荒种田，以此为家，潜心修道。这块至今保留完好的《创建观音堂碑》对此有明确的记载：德长，世本茌平县人，俗姓安，于正德初年云游此，爱山泉土木，遂决意与石工孙忠辇，开荒山，凿磔（zhe）石，填沟壑，而筑堂基。从此，贤子峪便有了生机。
In the early years of the Zhengde reign of Ming Dynasty, in 1506, a Taoist named An Dechang, arrived here during his travelling, immediately being attracted by this geomancy and treasure land. Then he decided to settle down, cultivate the virgin land, and made it his home while devoting himself to Taoist practice. There’s a clear record on the well-preserved“Establishment of Guanyin Hall Stele”: Dechang, a native of Chiping County, surnamed An, traveled here leisurely in the early years of the Zhengde reign. Loving mountains, springs, soil and trees, he decided to work with the stonemason Sun Zhongnian to open up the deserted mountain, shatter rocks, fill ditches, finally building the foundation of the hall. From then on, Xianzi Valley began to thrive.
3石屋、石路、石井、石桥，这里的每一块石头似乎都有故事，几百年间，它们在默默地诉说着历史的沧桑。那些依据山势高低不同而搭建的各式房屋分布在村子的各个角落，完好的保留着最初主人的建造风格，给人一种古老且沉稳的感觉。古朴的树木与饱经沧桑的石房互相映衬，更显得原汁原味，古朴协调。
stone houses, stone paths, stone wells, and stone bridges. Where there is a stone, there is a story. Over the centuries, they silently tell the history of the vicissitudes of life. The various houses built according to the different heights of the mountains are distributed in every corner of the village, perfectly preserving the construction style of the original owners and impressing people with a sense of ancient and composed feeling. The primitive trees and the weathered stone houses accompany and complement each other, making the scenery more authentic, primitive and harmonious.
4尽管经历了600多年的风雨，但这颗皂角树却丝毫没有衰退之态，依然枝繁叶茂，为世人撑起一片绿荫，福佑一方乡邻。记录着这座古村落的点点滴滴和历史变迁，历经数百年的风雨洗礼，依然沉默的守护着这片土地，继续演绎着深山古村落的传奇。
Despite undergoing over 600 years of wind and rain, this saponin tree has not shown any signs of decline and it is still thriving, providing a green shade for the world and blessing its villagers and neighbors. Recording the details and historical changes of this ancient village, experiencing the baptism of wind and rain for centuries, the saponin tree still silently safeguards this land and continues to interpret the legend of the ancient village in the deep mountains.
5从古至今，人们总是期盼家家万事顺心，代代人丁兴旺，贤子峪也是如此。坐落在村子半山腰的这处观音堂便是村里人几百年来敬仰的精神家园。这几块石碑清晰的镌刻着从明代最初创建到之后的几次重修和完善过程，几百年的岁月里，它们也成为记录贤子峪历史发展的重要见证。
From ancient times to the present, people have always expected everything to go well for each family and hoped generations to prosper, so has Xianzi Valley. Located halfway up the hill, the Guanyin Hall has been the spiritual home worshiped by the villagers for hundreds of years. These steles clearly depict the process of several renovations and improvements from the initial creation in the Ming Dynasty to later years. For centuries, they have also become important witnesses to record the historical development of Xianzi valley.

来到贤子峪后，我的第一感受就是静。除了偶尔能听到山中的几声鸟鸣之外，几乎听不到任何声音，仿佛时间静止了一般，沿脚下这条长长的石板路拾阶而上，仿佛进入了石头的世界一般。像我周围的石墙，石房子，还有前方的石桥，纯粹自然，曲径通幽，无不彰显着岁月的痕迹。
Arriving at Xianzi valley, I was firstly impressed with a tranquil feeling. Except for the occasional bird song in the mountains, I could hardly hear any other sound. It was as if time had stood still. Walking up along the long stone path at my feet, I felt as if I had entered the world of stones, such as the stone walls around me, the stone houses, and the stone bridge in front of me. They are all pure and natural, with the winding path leading to a seclusion, which all highlight the traces of time.
贤子峪村不仅是石头的世界，树木也非常茂盛，尤其到了夏季，整个村落郁郁葱葱，十分好看，当年住在这里的人，家家都有种植皂角树的习惯，那像我身边的这颗皂角树，您知道有多少岁了吗？不瞒您说啊，他已经有600岁了，这颗皂角树呢，也见证了整个贤子峪村的沧桑变迁。
Xianzi valley is not only a world of stones, but also rich in trees. Especially in summer, the entire village is lush and beautiful. The people who lived here in the past had a habit of planting saponin trees in every family. Take this tree beside me for example, do you know how old it is?
